Anton Du Beke was born on 20th July of 1966 in Kent in England. He was surrounded by hardships as a child, depression of his father due to alcohol and one day he was stabbed.

However, Anton was able to derive some happiness in dancing at the age of 14 and he eventually became a professional.

He was famous as a dancer, and later got a place as a judge at BBC’s “Strictly Come Dancing”, a position he has had since the show was established in 2004.

Early Life and Background

Anton Du Beke lived in a council estate in Sevenoaks, Kent, with his Hungarian father, Antal Xavier Beke, and Spanish mother, Ascensión “Conchita” Lema.

Anton Du Beke was the oldest of three children. His early life was tough due to his father’s alcoholism and abusive actions, including a serious fight on Boxing Day where Anton was stabbed. Despite these hardships, Anton found joy in dance at 14 after watching his sister perform.

However, his father didn’t support his interest in ballroom dancing and often called him derogatory names.

This upbringing taught Anton to be resilient and determined, which helped him become a successful ballroom dancer and television personality.

Discovery of Dance

Similar to any kid interested in dancing, Anton Du Beke was able to kick start dancing at a youthful age; 14 years of age to be precise next to his sister to a class in Sevenoaks, Kent.

He discovered his passion for dance he attempted Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Modern theater dance and so forth.

Though his father did not approve of his dancing he continued to perform what he wanted to be a dancer. He quit school at 16 and started dancing professionally and while attending school he would practice during the daytime and dance at night.

At seventeen, he decided to focus on Ballroom dancing and that made him professional and famous in this field of dancing.

However, at 17, he decided to take up ballroom dancing and was active in local and national events in the UK while struggling to make money to pay for his lessons as he worked several jobs to support himself.

His dance teachers and mentors noticed his ability and the potential that he had, this used to inspire him. Overcoming adversity and displaying a flair for dancing he progressed to achieving high title wins including the New Zealand Championships in 1998 & 1999.

Meeting Erin Boag

In 1997, Anton Du Beke’s career in dance changed when he met Erin Boag, starting a successful partnership that shaped their careers.

They had great chemistry, working well together and winning competitions. In just a year, they won the New Zealand Championships in 1998 and 1999.

They became professional in 2002 and won more awards, including the IDTA Classic in 2003.

They became famous for their grace and talent, attracting audiences and leading to their appearances on “Strictly Come Dancing”.
