Communications, television news and current affair anchor popularly known as Julie Stevens, the English actress was born in the year 1937 December 5th, died in the year 2024 December 5th aged 87. Having her birthday on December 20, 1936 in Prestwich, Lancashire, Julia was most famous in the British entertainment industry especially in children programming and exercise shows as well as as comedy films.
Before venturing into entertainment, Julie Stevens was a talent winner in a beauty pageant at 20, she was then given a contract by ABC Television. Her first job had her as the comedian on Bid for Fame. Julie Stevens achieved considerable fame as a presenter on Play School, in which she participated from 1964, when the show began, until 1988. The show was a fixture of British children’s television and affected generations of youngsters and put Stevens on the map.
Apart from the Play School, Julie Stevens had her appearance in television serials and films as well. More significantly, she played the role of Venus Smith, or showgirl, and occasional sidekick to Steed, in the early 1960s spy-jungle The Avengers commonly recognized today. Despite the fact she was only allowed to feature in six episodes, it boosted her growing fame. CARRY ON CLEO Carry On Cleo was released in 1964 and apart from being a box-office success it also helped to solidify Stevens position in British comedy.
Still in her career, Stevens was flexible in that she played different roles in different genres of movies. She was in other television shows such as Girls About Town, Cabbages and Kings, as well as Holby City. Her ability to communicate and work with kids and adult actors made her a loved personality in the British entertainment industry.
At the time, Stevens himself was bringing up two children and had been married twice. She was married to television presenter John White from 1962 until they were parted in 1975 and had two children. She later wed actor Michael Hucks in 1981 and has a divorce in 2001. During her later years, Stevens moved from one place to the other; London, and Provence, France.
Parkinson’s disease was diagnosed in Stevens in 2019, and she did battle with the sickness until her death. She also remained involved with the entertainment community and even encouraged many during the struggles of the illness.
What more can one say…her demise is the end for those of us who grew up watching her in Play School or admired her in films / TV programs. As tribute to Julie Stevens, what can be said about her is, she was a very kind and charming lady who made lots of contributions to children’s programs and British comedy.
Stevens is survived by her two children , four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Her achievements are first outlined regarding children’s television, particularly as she played a critical role in forging programming for children during her illustrious career. When fans and peers will be thinking about the life and the work of Julie Stevens she will be recognized as a pioneer who provided joy to many people for many years.
