Quincy Jones Passes Away at 91

Quincy Jones, music producer, and composer died on November 3, 2024, after suffering for long but rare illness at the age of 91 years.

His death was at his residence in Bel Air, Los Angeles with his family members. Jones had a long successful career as record producer /composer and arranger .

Quincy Delight Jones Jr. was born on 14 th March the same year AD 1933 in Chicago, Illinois; he was born in a poor family, and his childhood was greatly influenced by evils such as poverty, gangsterism.

He could play music as young as this, buying the trumpet and later on joining the Chicago Musical College. In the 1950″s he came to fame as a jazz arranger / conductor.

His first big milestone was at Mercury Records where he also produced popular hits for such entertainers as Lesley Gore.

Jones began in show business around 1960, with many hit records for Gore, including his biggest hit, “It’s My Party”.

This time can be said to be the time he rose into the limelight and became one of the most sought pop music producers.

Frank also formed new music with big jazz artists like Frank Sinatra and Count Basie in music that is still popular now.

It was not just Frank Sinatra’s version of “Fly Me to the Moon” which became Sinatra’s signature song, but the penned instrumental “Line for Line.”

In 1978, Quincy Jones started a major partnership with Michael Jackson, shaping their careers.

Together, they created three of Jackson’s most popular albums: “Off the Wall” (1979), “Thriller” (1982), and “Bad” (1987). “Thriller”, selling over 70 million copies globally, is the top-selling album ever.

Jones was not only involved in music production but also played a key role in film and television.

He created music for movies like “In Cold Blood” (1967) and “The Color Purple” (1985), which earned over $98 million and got 11 nominations at the Academy Awards.

He also worked on television, serving as an executive producer for the sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, which was on air from 1990 to 1996.

Jones’s impact went beyond just music. He started Qwest Productions in 1975 and then teamed up with Time Warner to create Quincy Jones Entertainment. This company worked on many projects in movies, TV, and music.

Jones dedicated his life to helping others and social issues. In 1985, he helped create the charity song “We Are the World,” which helped Ethiopia during a famine.

The song, with many famous artists, is a significant moment in music history.

Jones also helped by starting groups to support education and arts for groups that often don’t get enough help. He worked to give young people chances to learn music and succeed.

Quincy Jones had an amazing career, winning 28 Grammy Awards, which is a record. He also got a Primetime Emmy for his work on Roots (1977) and was nominated for seven Academy Awards.

Jones also received many honorary degrees from many established places such as Berklee College of Music and Harvard University. In 2001 he received the Kennedy Center Honored for his lifetime effort as an American artist through music and performances.

Jones was a woman of many lovers, several marriages throughout her life. He was married six times and has seven children, actress Rashida Jones amongst them.

His family was a huge support to him and supported him Ñ both in the lean seasons and in the triumphs of his career.

For this reason, and despite his many health problems including brain aneurysms Jones continued making music right up to his senility.

Quincy Jones not just opted for a music monitor albeit also contributed a lot in different genres such as jazz, pop and also motion picture soundtracks.

He assisted many musicians by connecting those with potential opportunities or providing directions to their career.
