Sir Paul McCartney, the remarkable musician and songwriter, infused Manchester with a bit of the Christmas spirit over the weekend. While on his ongoing Got Back Tour, McCartney treated the audience at Co-op Live arena with a special and live version of his most loved Christmas song, “Wonderful Christmastime”.
The 82-year-old music icon’s rendition of the festive tune was a truly special moment, as he has only performed “Wonderful Christmastime” live a handful of times throughout his illustrious career. The last live performance was in December 2018 in England when they performed a string of shows. It was before that during the December 2016 appearance on the Tonight with Jimmy Fallon show.
In order to boost the festive mood, Paul McCartney was accompanied by children from the You Should Be Dancing Theatre Academy. It became a winter experience with beautiful interlude; you watched them perform with such energy and talent deserves spotlight. The parent-child desirable relationship enhanced the performance and injecting an extra special feel to some of the dances I have never seen before.
Originally released as a standalone single in 1979, “Wonderful Christmastime” has since become a beloved holiday classic, cherished by fans worldwide. This is so because; has a good tune, good rhythm and rousing and invocative christmas clichéd lyrics. It was later released as the B side for some releases of his song McCartney II.
In a recent resurgence of popularity, “Wonderful Christmastime” re-entered the Rock Streaming Songs chart at No. 15. The song earlier reached the heights of ‘no2 and has taken a time of 47weeks in ‘most streamed rock tracks in the USA.’ Further, it rose to its chart high of the Billboard Hot 100 songs to 26 in the week January 6, 2024. This is well indicated in its performance following the progress of the holiday season, whether it will be able to perform even better and have a better standing on the charts.

Expectations could not have been met more than with Paul McCartney’s surprise performance, which reitereated that even in these late years, he hugely still has the power to wow a crowd. There is sound ambition to what Mika is doing and it should not be defined by age or generation, as fans listened to it and it touched them. So with the Got Back Tour still in progress, fans were left wondering what other surprises this great artist was going to unveil.
There will never be any argument placed against the influence Paul McCartney has had within popular music. During his time at The Beatles, he revolutionized the standards in music with his own hit songs that defined the 60s sound. McCartney recalls having met John Lennon and they became the most prolific writers of a couple of hits.
Post the break up of Beatles, Paul McCartney has since been busy recording a number of successful solo albums and collaborating with various musicians. over the years he has done rock n pop, classical etc even electronic music.
Writers get to comment that he has forsaken his ideals to pander towards an ever shifting music industry. So many countless idolized musicians and fans have benefited from his unrelenting love for music and desire to strive for greatness. It is evident that his impact is bound to be felt for many more decades to come even as he goes on tour and puts out more music in the foreseeable future.
